Morning Star achievement center building

Capital Campaign has begun

Morning Star’s Creating Our Furture capital campaign is investing $3,000,000 to expand and improve our campus facilities providing:

  • needed space for the Transition Program and growing high school enrollment
  • strengthened campus security
  • space for life skills classrooms
  • efficient traffic flow and improved parking

Our vision focuses on creating the spaces and providing the resources necessary to meet the critical need and growing demand for a Transition Program providing educational options for our high school graduates. The entire project will strengthen our school for all our students, kindergarten through age 22.

This is an exciting and pivotal time in Morning Star School’s history. Please support us as we create a school that will meet the needs of our students – grade school, high school and young adult – with identified learning challenges.

If you are interested in helping our dreams become a reality, please reach out to our school, 727-544-6036 or email our principal, Mrs. Sue Conza.

John Prine, 1946-2020

On Tuesday, April 7, 2020, Morning Star School lost a friend. Singer-Songwriter John Prine was a friend of Morning Star School over the years and we were blessed to have him visit the faculty, staff and students just a few short months ago. Ms. Vinachi and Mrs. Ochoa-Rowland dedicate their rendition of Angel of Montgomery to all the people who loved John, especially Joe and Jonah Nuzzo. God bless and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Updated School Closure Information

This memo amends the earlier versions, by extending the closure of Catholic Schools and Centers (and enacting virtual/online school) through April 15, 2020. Be safe and well everyone! Thank you

Dear Catholic School Parents and Guardians,

March 18, 2020

Im writing to you once again to communicate changes to our plans for our Catholic school students.

In keeping with the directives and guidelines from our government and public health authorities, Bishop Gregory Parkes has directed that all Catholic Schools and Early Childhood centers will be closed to students until April 15,2020. The schedule of days follows:

  • March 1820 Virtual/Online school days
  • March 23-27 No school; we will be using the days off from Easter vacation to give our teachers and students a mental and physical break.
  • March 30 April 15, Virtual/Online school days; however, on Good Friday, April 10 there is no school.

Currently, there is no guidance beyond April 15. We will communicate changes as soon as possible

As a parent with two children in our Catholic schools, I understand the familial and life challenges this entire situation has produced while realizing that many families have concerns much greater than mine. I have been amazed at the creativity and cando attitude that I’ve seen from our teachers and administrators and witnessed incredible acts of kindness and understanding from parents and others. I encourage each of us to look out for one another in our communities and beyond. We are the Church and our actions during this time will define us as Christians. During this very unique Lent, we are called to walk with one another through the desert.

As always, please be assured of my prayers and those of my many colleagues in our Catholic schools.

Sincerely in Christ,

Christopher L. Pastura

2020-03-16 parent letter covid19

March 16, 2020

Dear Catholic School Parents and Guardians,

The health and safety of our families is our top priority. We are continuing to follow the guidance from the CDC and public health organizations as we make decisions about how best to move forward with regard to the coronavirus (Covid-19). After prayerful consideration, Bishop Gregory Parkes has directed that all Catholic school and Early Childhood center buildings will be closed to students from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. The schedule of days follows:

  • March 16 – No school for students.
  • March 17 – Local, school-level meetings as planned by your administrator. No school for students.
  • March 18-20 – Virtual/Online school days.
  • March 23-27 – No school for students; we will be using the days off from Easter vacation to give our teachers and students a mental and physical break.
  • March 30 and after- Normal school or virtual/online days, based on future guidance. This has not been decided as of the writing of this document.
  • April 10 – Good Friday; no school for students.
  • April 13-17 – These are no longer days off. They will be normal school or virtual/online days.

We ask for your patience and assistance during this unprecedented situation. We understand the difficulty these actions will have for many families, particularly changes in the school calendar. We will be speaking to our administrators about working with families who already made plans the week after Easter. Let’s continue to pray for one another and remember that while we are separated by quarantines, self-isolation and social distancing, Pope Francis reminds us that, united in Christ we are never alone.

Sincerely in Christ,

Christopher L. Pastura

Superintendent of Catholic Schools and Centers
